Hoodland's mountain communities—including Government Camp, Welches, and Rhododendron—face unique challenges, from wildfire risk and severe winter weather to growing tourism and limited public services. These communities need leaders who understand rural priorities and deliver practical results. Commissioner Mark Shull has consistently done exactly that.

One of Shull's most significant achievements was championing the transfer of the former Dorman Center property to Hoodland Fire District #74 for a new fire station. His persistence helped secure the land without requiring taxpayers to fund a costly property purchase, saving the district hundreds of thousands of dollars. The transfer paved the way for a modern, seismically resilient station that will improve emergency response, strengthen coordination with the U.S. Forest Service, and better protect residents and visitors alike.

Shull also demonstrated his commitment to local services by advocating for $120,000 in county funding to keep the Welches library operating during a financial shortfall. Although the proposal did not pass, his effort reflected his belief that rural libraries are essential community resources.

Recognizing the growing impact of short-term rentals, Shull worked to strengthen county regulations that addressed neighborhood concerns about noise, traffic, parking, and trash while preserving the economic benefits of tourism. His balanced approach helped protect the character and livability of Hoodland communities.

A military veteran and longtime public servant, Shull has earned a reputation for listening to rural residents whose voices are often overlooked. His record demonstrates fiscal responsibility, practical leadership, and a willingness to navigate complex issues to achieve lasting results.

As Hoodland continues to face challenges involving emergency preparedness, infrastructure, and community growth, Mark Shull has shown he is committed to protecting the interests of mountain residents. His proven leadership and dedication make him a strong advocate for Hoodland's future.
